WILD PIGS

A candle light dinner organized by Impiana resort for two newly weds on a gazebo was rudely interrupted by a herd of wild pigs scrummaging for earthworms. The bride and bridegroom were too scared to continue and chose to have their dinner in their room instead.

A mousedeer was badly damaged when it ran over a rogue wild boor. A mousedeer? No, it was a Perodua Kancil !

A 'palas shoot' collector promised never again to go and search for the 'palas shoot'. He was badly mauled by again a wild boar in a bush in Bukit Mentok, just a few days from the Eid.

A patron of a food joint in the Sultan Ahmad mosque in Chukai was injured when a wild pig, out of nowhere, ran and mauled him as he was about to have his nasi lemak.

They are every where in Malaysia, as long as there are some bushes around for them to hide.

Their reproductive efficiency is beyond compare. They can give birth to 10 piglets at one go with ease!

They are omnivorous just like us. They can survive on anything. Their thick hide made fencing them out very difficult, if not impossible.

How then to control them? Selective and periodic culling is the answer perhaps. A certain section of our society just love their fat-free pork out of wild pigs. Beware of tapeworms though!

This morning I just missed running over them near Kijal.

How I wish we could have our tigers back roaming in those jungles and they would be the perfect candidates for this ecology and food chain balancing act!

It would be a big business if they could be caught in big quantities and commercialized and then be sold to this section of our community!

It is too late now. Many of our tigers have perished, either due to destruction of their habitat or over-killing by humans.

Creatures, big or small, have their contribution on Earth's equilibrium. You disturb one you disturb all.

Sad to note that in the late 80's there were still tigers roaming Bukit Kuang still-forested areas...now we can hardly find a mousedeer anymore there....

According to our mutual friend.. his Arab friend has reasons to believe that it is halal to eat wild boar..
and statistically there is bound to be 6 wild boars per acre of M'sian forest/semak.... as it is a craze to eat wild boars in European countries.. Malaysia can export them .. the question is who is going to do it.. javascript:void(0)
Hello Mr. Martin Lee.... Oops I am pulling his legs..

Pork from wild pigs is leaner and tastier than that of the domesticated pigs...may be Martin will vouch for this...

They make lap chong out of wild pig's pork...

Have to be careful of tapeworm though...

I suggest the state government to sub-out such wild boar harvesting to the non-Muslim community, they will somehow find a way to market and export those meat!

Just to be careful though on how the state government will use those "Sub-out" money to avoid another issue.

Well cooked meat will have all those tape-worms killed, I suppose!

You are right Martin. Proper cooking kills the worms. So next time you are feasting on it make sure it is not grilled...chunky meat will still harbour larvae in the middle....
